If you want to know where extreme mountaineer and adventurer Reinhold Messner spends his summer months, you have to head towards Meran. On the left side, at the entrance to the Schnalstal Valley, towers his summer residence: Juval Castle. This medieval complex is both a prehistoric cult site and part of the Messner Mountain Museums. The MMM Juval, which you can visit from March to November, is dedicated to the myth of the mountain. It displays its Tibetika collection, a picture gallery on the world’s sacred mountains, a collection of masks from five continents, its expedition cellar, the unique exhibition on Gesar Ling, a Tantra room and Renaissance frescoes. An impressive place.
