Hiking in the Vinschgau Valley

Over hill and dale

Hiking in the Vinschgau encompasses everything from a leisurely walk along the Waalwege hiking trails to the ascent of glaciers in the Ortler and Cevedale ranges. The Vinschgau hiking region is blessed with an inner-Alpine valley climate which is dry and sunny, with generally light winds and mild temperatures.

While lush green vegetation predominates on the gently sloping hillsides of the Nörderberg, the Sonnenberg slopes are home to a unique plant world. Particularly during spring and autumn, when the opposite side of the valley is still hidden under a blanket of snow, you can still enjoy pleasant hikes on the sun-exposed paths and trails of the Sonnenberg. Throughout the year, the Vinschgau Valley offers a variety of both easy and challenging hikes, and is just perfect for all nature lovers!

Enjoy a thrilling hiking holiday in the Vinschgau Valley with high-alpine hiking tours in South Tyrol and the Martell Valley in the Stelvio National Park!

Wasseradern Waalwege

Along the famous “Waalwege”
Some of the most popular hiking trails in the Vinschgau Valley run along the so called Waalen. These water channels were once used by farmers to irrigate their fields. Most lack steep gradients, so you can almost take a leisurely stroll along the Sonnenberg or Nörderberg. These tracks are particularly suitable for walks or light hikes out in the open. With the sound of rippling water in your ears, you can enjoy spectacular views across the valley to the mighty Alpine mountain ranges all year round. The most popular waterways are those around the Malser Haide, Glurns and Schluderns, as well as the 11-km-long Tscharser Schnalswaal and the Marlinger and Algunder waterways near the spa town of Meran.
